Many Faces of Mexico in Minnesota Class
Monday, June 25 - Thursday, June 28, 2012
Hamline University and La Conexión de las Américas are working together to offer a multi-faceted, interactive course, Many Faces of Mexico in Minnesota. The four days of classes focus on historical, economic and social perspectives on why Mexicans emigrate from their country and chose Minnesota. Participants will learn about the challenges they face and the contributions they make.
Participants will interact with immigrants, learn to identify and respond to myths and stereotypes, gather resources, and visit a Latino-led social service agency. You will address current issues related to education, business, law enforcement, and immigration policy. The class focuses on building awareness and understanding in order to respond with compassion to recent immigrants. It is taught via role-play, small group, paired activities and community building methodology that can be readily adapted into participant’s lesson plans or community activities.
Please register by June 10, 2012.
