Current Approaches to Spanish and Portuguese Second Language Phonology

From http://www.cas.sc.edu/ling/activities/CASPSLP2012

The third bi-annual CASPSLP conference will be held at the University of South Carolina, February 16-19, 2012. The conference aims to showcase approaches to and findings of the study of second language phonology. The presentations will include a wide range of contexts, from acquisition of Spanish phonology by English speakers to the acquisition of Portuguese phonology by Spanish speakers; from classroom-based learning to full immersion in the culture of the second language; and all other related topics. By focusing on the breadth of approaches that scholars are taking to the study of second language phonological acquisition in Spanish and Portuguese, this conference aims to represent the state-of-the-art in second language phonological acquisition.

The conference will open with a series of workshops on experimental methods and research tools, and will include sessions on Praat, ultrasound and fMRI.

Abstracts are invited for presentations on any topic related to the second language acquisition of the Spanish and Portuguese sound systems, and the theme is intended to be construed as broadly as possible.

The call for abstracts for papers has been extended to October 15, 2011. Additionally, the organizers have now opened a call for abstracts for a poster session, with submission between October 16, 2011 and December 5, 2011.
