Together with JNCL-NCLIS and as part of the American Language Enterprise Advocacy (ALEA), GALA drafted a statement entitled "Languages Are Vital to U.S. STEM Competencies." The statement was submitted at the request of the Office of Science and Technology Policy of the White House. In this statement, GALA calls for the U.S. to support and promote the language enterprise as part of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Specifically, they recommend that languages be included in STEM educational policy, that language technology and linguistics research be highlighted, and that language be included in discussions of STEM-related policies on immigration reform, small businesses and other areas.
