Summer Advanced Indonesian Abroad Program 2013
For U.S. Students, Teachers, Educational Administrators, and Independent Scholars
Program Dates: June 17 - August 8, 2013
Location: Language Center, Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW) in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia
This immersion program focuses on advanced-level language acquisition and consists of a structured academic program of four hours of language instruction four mornings/week and two-three hours of task-based activities one afternoon per week plus a group field trip on Friday. One weekend will feature an excursion to a cultural site in Java outside Salatiga.
All applicants should have achieved by June 2013 at least an intermediate level of proficiency in Indonesian, equivalent to the proficiency expected at the end of a fourth-semester or sixth-quarter course. Graduate students, undergraduates of junior or senior standing, faculty members, teachers in elementary and secondary schools, and educational administrators are eligible to apply. It is permitted for students to have graduated immediately prior to the beginning of the summer program.
For U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents, fellowship funding is available for this program from the U.S. Department of Education's Fulbright Hays Group Projects Abroad which covers full tuition, homestays, books and other classroom materials, plus round-trip international airfare from the U.S. to Indonesia, and related ground transportation.
