2012 Japanese Language Workshop
“The JF Standard Familiarization Workshop”

The Japan Foundation’s Standard for Japanese-Language Education (JF Standard) was developed under the principle of “Japanese for mutual understanding” as a tool to help think about teaching, learning, and assessment in Japanese-language education in line with 21st century pedagogy that is compatible with current guiding principles for language education in the U.S. such as thematic instruction and backward-designed curricula. During this workshop, participants will familiarize themselves with the JF Standard through the following activities:
• Discussion on the basic idea of what the JF Standard is
• Discussion on the relationship between the JF Standard and other standards in U.S. language education
• Hands-on learning of how to use online tools for the JF Standard
• Hands-on learning of how to revise/improve your curriculum
• Implementing the JF Standard
