This global survey provides an overview of recent policy decisions and trends in the area of teaching English to primary school children, in a wide variety of countries and regions. It will interest and inform policymakers, researchers and practitioners in the field.
Based on information from experts in 64 contexts, it addresses matters such as syllabuses and curricula, the time dedicated to English teaching, materials used, teacher qualifications, and assessment. It also considers the relationships between public and private sector English teaching and the growing trend to offer English teaching at pre-school level. The analysis and discussion of these themes and the raw data in the individual context report sheets are a valuable source of information on, and insight into, primary school English language learning worldwide.
